Two young elves stood face to face. The bowed to one another, and turned on their heels. After walking twenty paces, they faced again. There was the sound of a whistle, followed by a flurry of action.
The smaller elf, a red-haired girl, ran along the lines of the dueling ring, her hangs gyrating to gather up energy from the air. Her mouth worked ferociously, chanting in the language of magic. A bolt of flame came from the other elf, a slim, black-haired boy. The girl raised her hands in the air, summoning a wall of earth to block the fire. She then made a pushing motion, causing the wall to slide forward at the boy.
The boy nimble dodge the wall of earth, snapping his fingers to summon another ball of flame. This time, instead of using magic, the girl rolled under the fireball. With a flick of her fingers, she sent a hail of stones flying at the boy.
The quick elf managed to dodge most of the stones, but a few struck him, one drawing blood on his forehead. he threw yet another ball of flame at the girl, who just barely dodged it, resulting in the singing of her cloak.
The two simultaneously sent streams of their element flying at each other. The stream of dirt and the beam of fire pushed on each other, but none gained ground. A whistle blew, and the two stopped casting. A pillar of rock, forged from the combination of their elements, stood where their magic had met. The two bowed to each other, and then walked off of the dueling circle, arms over the others shoulder.
Kaia could not have asked for a better friend than Balt. They had met at the elven academy of magic, and had been thick at thieves ever since their first duel.

After class, Kaia and Balt made off to the nearest tree. The trees of the Mabanogi forest were huge, and ranged from leafy oaks to sweeping willows. As they ascended a great oak, Kaia felt an unfamiliar stitch in her chest. She and Balt often climbed trees, and, as part of their magician;s training, had to be in great shape. She lingered on the stitch for a bit, but let her mind wander when she and her friend got to the top of the tree.
They sat on a bough, eating sandwiches they had packed beforehand. "You were really good today," Balt said with a smile. "I was just about as good as you were. Though we use different magic, we fight with almost the same style. Do you think it's odd?" Kaia asked her friend "Not really. My father raised both of us, so... I think it is natural that we would fight in similar styles. By the way... You've been trembling a bit as of late. Are you alright?" one young elf asked the other. "I... I've been feeling odd lately. Sick, almost. But my nose isn't gross and runny, I'm just cold all the time..." Kaia held out a scrap of bread, and a bird flew down to get it. She said a few words in the language of magic, and the bird hopped on one leg, heeding what the red- tressed girl had said. She gave him another bit of food, and he flew off.
The two sat in the tree, watching the sun dip down below the horizon. They descended the tree with the last rays of twilight, heading to the dorms as darkness fell.

"My lady." A middle-age man called her, he was walking behind her, following her as he always did. "We will head to Lyarburg tomorrow, please, get some rest."
"Yes, I know." Karin looked over her shoulder. She gave the man a slight nod, this man had always protected her like a father since she was born. "Don't worry, I am in my best condition. Beside, I am just going to meet my friend." Karin smiled to the man before heading to the dorm. The man scratched his head and sighed, he then decided to wait her near the gate.
Karin was on her way when she saw the girl walking in front of her, she was with a boy. Karin giggled, they looked like her when she was younger. They hadn't noticed her yet, Karin smiled as she walked faster to close the distance. "Kaia. It has been a long time." Karin patted the girl's shoulder lightly.

Kaia made a high-pitched squealing noise and hugged the elf. "Karin! It's been almost two years!" she said. "That way too long of a time for us to be apart." the little girl looked up at the older, her eyes sparkling. "What have you been doing? Some amazing things, I bet! Tell me everything!" Kaia almost shook with joy upon seeing her old friend.

"You haven't changed at all." Karin brushed Kaia's hair with her fingers. "I always like to see you like this." The violet haired elf knelt to see her face closer. "You have grown a little." Karin smiled as she touch her cheek, pinching a bit. She always thought Kaia as her younger sister.
"Yeah, it was amazing. I went to Lilinia and Derekland where I met various people. It was an amazing experience for me although I went there for a difficult mission. I will tell you about it later. See, it's dark here. We can talk in your room. " Karin smiled, she felt happy herself to remember those moments in the foreign land. Karin then remembered something. "Oh, I have something for you. Here, I hope you like it." She took a tiara from a small bag around her waist and gave it to Kaia. The tiara was made from silver, it had rubies and rare crystals from Lilinia attached.
Karin looked at the boy behind Kaia, smiling to him, she then whispered to her. "Your boyfriend?"

Kaia gazed at the tiara, amazed. She almost didn't hear Karin's question as she put it on her head. "Ahh, Karin! No," she protested. "You know Balt, Our Highness's son. He has been like a brother to me ever since... Well, ever since his father adopted me." she added, her smile faltering. "But thank you for this tiara! It's so pretty! And light, too! I do love it!" she smiled again, looking at her older sister figure.
"I cannot wait to hear about all of your adventures! Let's go!" Kaia grabbed both Karin's and Balt's hands, leading the former to his room, and afterward, bringing Karin to her won.

Karin felt so foolish, she didn't notice that Balt was the king's son. Well, he had grown a little, he looked kinda different now. Beside, she had been away for two years, no wonder she didn't recognize him. But before she could apologize for her ignorance, Kaia grabbed her hand and led Karin to her dorm.
They were alone now in her room, Karin crossed her arms and leaned against the wall. "Your room is comfortable, and clean too," she said. Looking around, she noticed that Kaia hadn't changed much. Karin walked towards the bed and sat on the edge, she saw a dragon doll in the corner of the bed, she smiled as she remembered when she bought that doll to give it to Kaia as birthday present.
"Okay, Kaia. Actually, I want to hear about what you have been doing as well but it seems you can't wait to hear my stories. What do you want to hear first? About Lilinia? Or Derekland?"

It had gotten late, but that didn't stop him. No sir it didn't! For all he cared, the night was young and so was he: why not stay out and have some fun? Besides, he was HERE! he was out in the courtyard of the Elven Academy of Magic, the group of soldiers he was with was allowed to stay the night here, where they would be accepting other recruits...needless to say he snuck out of the room he was in to do some exploring and interrogating the locals.
All these giant trees, their unique smells, the sounds of animals deep in the woods so different from the crickets he was used to back home. The fact that there was such a place in the middle of an ancient forest baffled the young man's mind: and he thought the trip through Elvendom was amazing!
Currently, he was chatting with some elven woman, around his age, and unlike most men would try to do: he was asking her questions instead of asking her out, firing them out faster than they could fully respond:
"Really? So yer people actually live in them big ole trees?!"
"Well, in older times we did, but n-"
"Wha' 'bout them ears? Do they help ya hear betta?!"
"I-I guess we hear better than you Reli-"
"So wha's wit' the clothing? Is it the usual thang people aroun' here wear, or is it just yer school uniform?"
This went on for awhile, and he was talking quite loudly in his excitement: He was in an exotic place, how could he not be anxious?!

Kaia smiled, remembering the day her friend had given her the doll. "I don't really do much around here. I study, practice magic, the occasional fencing class, but it is relatively boring. Honestly, I've been thinking of leaving. There are some interesting types of magic I've learned about here, but I would need to travel to find out about them... Plus, I feel like something is pulling me towards the Arkaline Mountains. Like someone there needs me, or... I can't really explain it. But that's why I want to hear about your travels!' the girl laughed.
"You've been having awesome adventures while I've been reading musty old books! That sounds a lot more interesting that what I've been doing." the small girl smiled the whole time, but she knew someone with Karin's talents could easily see the flash of jealousy in her eyes. There was one kind of Magic in particular Kaia wanted to learn about. A certain spell that would make her be able to shuff off the chains of being a looked upon as a child.

"Kaia..." Karin smiled, she could understand Kaia's feeling. "When I was around your age, I always spent my time in academy, training and studying. You are still young Kaia. If you train seriously everyday and graduate faster, you would get your adventures eventually." She stretched out her hand to pat her head, her hair felt soft.
"Well, I think I should start now." Karin pulled Kaia towards her and then sat the young elf on her lap, circling her with her arms. "When I reached Lilina after a long and boring trip on the ship, I was amazed by their looks, I thought their wings were beautiful. They looked like angels, pure and beautiful." Karin smiled as she imagined if she had their wings. "Well, nothing really happened in Lilinia. Just diplomatic talks and joint trainings. We also had a big banquet there to celebrate one of the nobles' birthday." Karin didn't tell her about all of what happened, some of them was considered as secret.
"When we were sailing, sometimes we had to fight pirates. They are ruthless men, that's why the sea sometimes isn't a safe place." Karin, being taller than the young elf, leaned her head over Kaia's head.
OoC : I don't know how to respond Robert.

OoC: me neither. It's really open-ended, so i guess I'll make something up.
Kaia loved listening to Karin talk. She had such a nice voice, and she was very good at telling stories. "Angels?!" she interrupted, "wow, that sounds amaz- oh, sorry," she blinked sheepishly and let Karin keep talking. When Karin got to the part about the pirates, though, she could no longer restrain herself. "I don't know how I would fare at sea! I'm not sure if my magic would even work! I mean- Oh, I'm doing it again. Sorry!" but in the middle of her interrupting, someone else interrupted them.
A young man bumbled in their room. The first thing Kaia noticed was his dress. It was very much unlike anything people here wore. Then she saw his ears. Round. He was a human. She had never met a human. "Ahhh! You're a human!" she yelled, jumping out of Karin's lap. She did not care that he had bumbled into her room by mistake. "I can't believe it, a human!" she jumped jovially, staring at his ears. "Karin, look! A human!" continued.

Robert had questioned/pestered the elven maiden for awhile, inquiring about everything he could until she excused herself...before taking off at a rather quick pace...oh well, people had their own agendas as well he s'posed. Thus he adjusted the long weapon strapped to his back and made his way down the campus grounds for the room he was assigned to share with another recruit. He stuck close to the walls and doors given how dark it was getting, so he could see the numbers on them better, and as he passed by one room he heard a voice. A pretty one.
But that wasn't why he was interested (well not entirely why.): the voice said something about pirates. Naturally his sense of adventure kicked in and he backpedaled back to the dorm room he passed, listening in, but (and he was now feeling jealous of elves for it) due to his lack of enhanced hearning found himself leaning up against the door to listen on the story bett-
Now, he didn't know anything about elven customs, but back where HE was from, closing your doors all the way and/or locking them was the norm, as he found himself stumbling forward into the room. The little girl of the two began screaming, and he could barely hear what she was saying as he recoiled back, hand moving to his side nervously," Woah now! No need t' get anxious, accidents happen!"

Kaia smiled at the human, still looking him in the ears. "I'm not mad, or frightened, or anxious! I couldn't be Happier! You are a human! I've never met a human. Can we be best friends?!" she asked. The little elf hopped up and down, tugging on the man's sleeve. If anyone was to be annoyed in this situation, it would have been Robert. Kaia wondered what had brought the human here, but all she knew is that a new thing stood at her doorway, and she wanted to know him.

Karin didn't know how to explain this. A man with a shotgun in his hand barged into the room? And to make the thing more confusing, he was a Human. Normally, it was her and Kaia that should get nervous or scared, but he took that role. As expected from Kaia, she looked happy and asked him to be her friend. Karin just covered her face with her palm and sighed. How if he was actually a dangerous man? "Kaia..." She muttered to herself.
Karin stood up and walked towards them, stopping behind Kaia. She looked at the man with her jade eyes. Secretly, she stared at the man's face. He didn't look like bad guys, her eyes had ability to know someone's real intention by showing a image that representing their true selves. But that gun still took her interest, Karin didn't doubt this man, she just tried to make sure everything safe.
"I hope you would try to be more polite next time. I bet you were eavesdropping us, weren't you?" Karin put her hand in her waist as she said. "Well, don't ever do it again."
Karin noticed his uniform."That uniform. You are a soldier, aren't you? May I ask you about your reason coming here?" Smiling as she asked.

Robet just paused, lowering his hand from his hip, where his pistol was holstered. This kid...well, her way of acting towards a stranger put a smile to his face, as he gave the little kid a pat on the head," Well sure we can, kiddo! Always a pleasure to meet a person'a measure: That's what ma pa said!" he'd already overcome the nervousness of the situation, before he looked back up to the older woman, around his age he'd assume, staring at him with cold, jaded (and jade colored) eyes (well at least he thought she was jaded. That's how blank her stare was!)
"Uh...we-well missie, the recruiters came round here and were offered to stay for the night, but enough about that!" with this, he non-nonchalantly sat down at the side of the bed, hands on his lap," Why dont'cha tell us more about these Pirates, eh! Always on the lookout for a good story to hear!"
